About Us

The Association is a voluntary organisation and registered charity.  It is financed by funds from statutory authorities, award bodies/trusts, and donations.  The Association operates within the localities of Angus and is managed by a board of directors who are volunteers with a wide range of interests and expertise.

The Association was started in 1991 by a group of people interested in promoting better mental health among the population of Angus.  In 1995 the then committee received their first Mental Illness Specific Grant and moved towards employing staff to provide services directly for people with mental health needs within our communities.  Since this time the Association has been successful in gaining further funding from a variety of different sources, which include: The Scottish Executive, Angus Council, The National Lottery Charities Board; Comic Relief; Tudor Trust; and, UVAF.  This has enabled the Association to provide a whole range of services and employ further staff.

MISSION STATEMENT

Angus Mental Health Association strives to provide excellent quality support services and activities in community settings for people experiencing mental health difficulties throughout Angus.

The services are adaptable and sensitive to the needs and interests of individuals and offer choices and opportunities towards recovery, greater independence and ordinary living.

Through education, information and example, AMHA seeks to increase mental health awareness, mental well being and reduce stigma across the community.

VISION STATEMENT

Our vision is that we will continue to strive to improve and develop the services we provide to people with mental health difficulties across Angus in order to maximise their independence, improve their mental well-being and support their road to recovery.

We will do so in partnership with statutory services, and by continuing to seek funding sources, both statutory and charitable, to provide services which fit with local strategic planning objectives.

We will continue to involve our service users in the development of services and strive to widen the choices we can provide for social and leisure activities.
