AMHA is a voluntary organisation and registered charity. It is currently financed by funds from statutory authorities, award bodies/trusts and donations. AMHA operates throughout the Angus area and is governed by a Board of Directors (volunteers) with a wide range of interests and expertise including education, business, service user and carer backgrounds.
AMHA was established in 1991 by people who shared an interest in mental health and who wished to make a difference for those living with mental health needs in Angus. In 1995, AMHA began to provide far reaching services that work with young people and older people alike. It remains committed to improving the health of our communities and works tirelessly to provide good quality humanistic services. AMHA values people and works in a person centred manner every step of the way.
Today, AMHA provides recovery led services for adults 16-65 under the auspices of ‘Connect-2-Discovery’, which aim to promote good mental and physical health and combat stigma to help promote every individual we work with and their own recovery or ‘journey of discovery’. Connect-2-Discovery incorporates AMHA’s Connect Services (peer social networks and interest/activity groups) and Discovery Services (buddying and mentoring). Owing to AMHA’s Service Level Agreement with Angus Council ending on the 31st March 2010 the services are in a period of transition, with provision likely to be scaled back from 1st April to the 30th September 2010 should AMHA enter into a new contract with Angus Council.
In addition to this, AMHA operates throughout Angus a unique educational and awareness raising programme for young people (Outreach Learning Programme); has a groundbreaking partnership with the leading national charity the Scottish Association for Mental Health ; and, is the only care provider in Angus to have the national quality assurance standard ‘Investing in Volunteers’.
